When we\u2019re launching a show, it\u2019s easy to assume the website is the big move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A website feels official. It feels like progress. It feels like the thing that makes the project \u201creal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And yes \u2014 a great website is<\/em> cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This post is about a faster path: the path that gets tickets sold sooner, keeps our energy clean, and gets the tech stuff off our plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This advice comes from producing a weekly show for 266+ weeks and helping performers sell themselves for a living. I\u2019ve built a lot of websites. I\u2019ve also watched websites become a distraction from the one thing that matters: getting people into seats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\n\n\n\n

Websites Work Best as Conversion Tools<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A website is not a stranger machine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A website works best when it takes someone who\u2019s already curious and turns them into someone who clicks Buy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s the job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So when we\u2019re building a new show, the question becomes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What helps a curious person buy a ticket with the least friction?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strangers Come From Promotion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If we want new people in the room, they don\u2019t appear because we built a nice page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They show up because we promote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strangers come from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • ads<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • flyers \/ physical presence<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • partnerships<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • venues and local orgs sharing us<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • word of mouth<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • social momentum<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • being talked about by the right people<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    That\u2019s the engine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The Fastest Setup Is a Short Funnel<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    When our goal is ticket sales, we win by making the funnel short.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Step 1: Put Ticket Sales on a Ticket Platform<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    We pick a ticket platform and let it do what it\u2019s built to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Eventbrite. Humanitix. TicketTailor. Anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Then we buy a domain and put up one clean page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

        This is enough for 95% of our customers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
