I keep seeing subway and train videos where the other passengers seem intent on not paying ANY attention to what\u2019s happening a few feet away\ud83d\ude02 Is this a recent trend? I don\u2019t remember it being so severe before 2010.What fuels it? It\u2019s as though \u201cif I give you my attention I\u2019m losing something.\u201d Thoughts?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Yeah, if I\u2019m on a train and someone does a show for money, I can 1\ufe0f\u20e3watch them and pay, 2\ufe0f\u20e3watch them and feel guilty for not paying, 3\ufe0f\u20e3or ignore them and do the thing I was planning to do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n At a party, paying attention is also paying. If an attendee feels they know what is enjoyable for them, why would they take the risk of doing something else. They might feel guilty if they don\u2019t smile or clap, <\/p>\n\n\n\n so there\u2019s an unsolicited transaction going on. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Even in a stage show, we as performers, have the responsibility to deliver big time. Audiences are taking a risk on us. They could easily go off into their own minds to their comfort zones and enjoy themselves a little bit. Let\u2019s disturb them, and open the door to something better.
