The idea of a fan site is great for people \/ companies that pay their bills with ticket sales. I mean, that&#8217;s the actual source of income. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I&#8217;ll talk more about fan sites later. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When we&#8217;re trying to get booked for things, a public appearance calendar can show up as a lot of red flags.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>outdated events listings &#8211; looks like we&#8217;re not able to maintain our business<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>events that might conflict with the booker\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>ethically \/ politically<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>timewise (like &#8220;we want to book you in idaho on june 3, but you&#8217;re in atlanta that week&#8221;)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>industry overlap ( you&#8217;re performing for the other book shop in town! )<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>looking too exposed &#8211; if a rock club wants to book us, they may not want us performing the week before in the same city. It&#8217;s easier to sell tickets to a hungry following<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>gaps in calendar make us look unpopular<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>events that are off our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scot.fun\/damentals\/branding-simple-difficult\/\">brand<\/a> : eg we&#8217;re labeled as luxury yet hitting up &#8220;Wacky Family Fest of Gorgia, TX&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The fantasies of the ticket calendar<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>makes us look successful<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>our fans are going to check our site regularly, then eagerly buy tickets<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>people are going to randomly find our site and buy a ticket<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Here&#8217;s what a successful tour calendar looks like.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>this calendar absolutely belongs on this guy&#8217;s site. Would it be better to get one gig or 20 tickets sold? <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Maybe 3? probably zero? Then, we want to do whatever we can to get the gig. Keep our sites deliberate, to the point. Looking up-to-date (which means avoiding anything that&#8217;s perishable) and directly showing value, clarity, and call to action. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scot.fun\/damentals\/updateable-websites-are-deadsites\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2858\">Here&#8217;s more about how we don&#8217;t want our sites to be updatable <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">take action: remove the gig calendar \/ forget about ever adding one<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want, put the calendar in your email blasts to fans and on your social media, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scot.fun\/damentals\/dont-look-like-a-failure\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"4587\">prune your social media regularly <\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Most performers want a website that gets them bookings.
